Peacemaker’s Earth X Reveal Catches Fans’ Attention

James Gunn, the creative force behind DC Studios, recently expressed surprise at how quickly viewers identified the Earth X twist in Peacemaker Season 2. The revelation about Christopher Smith’s pocket dimension has become a major talking point among fans, with many catching on to the storyline’s direction much earlier than anticipated.

The Earth X Revelation

In the sixth episode titled “Ignorance Is Chris,” it’s revealed that Smith’s idealized dimension where he and his family are celebrated as heroes is actually DC Universe‘s version of Earth X. This parallel dimension from the comics features an alternate history where Nazi Germany won World War II and took over the world. The setting perfectly accommodates Smith’s white supremacist father, who fits right in as a superhero in this twisted reality.

The episode’s climax shows Smith in shock as he realizes the absence of Black people in the dimension where he had been isolating himself. Meanwhile, his friend Adebayo faces a harrowing scene where she’s chased by a group of white people who shout “One got out. A Black” as they spot her walking down a street lined with mailboxes that resemble white crosses.

Gunn’s Surprise at Fan Perception

Gunn revealed that while online fans began speculating about the all-white background cast as early as episode 3, the test audiences who previewed the entire season didn’t notice the racial homogeneity in Earth X scenes. “I think everybody online noticed what was happening, but also because they were discussing it,” Gunn explained. “I showed the whole season to people before that and they did not notice at all. And it wasn’t all white friends, it was people of color, white people, everybody who just didn’t notice that all the extras were white every time we went to Earth X.”

The director attributed this difference in perception to the show’s structure, noting that cutting back and forth between dimensions served as a buffer for casual viewers. However, once viewers noticed the pattern of exclusively white background actors in Earth X scenes compared to diverse crowds in other locations, the realization quickly spread through fan discussions.

Handling Sensitive Subject Matter

Gunn emphasized the careful approach taken with the episode’s sensitive themes, particularly the scene where Adebayo is chased by an angry white crowd. “What happens at the end, because you don’t want to treat it lightly and there’s a humorous aspect to it, but it’s also very scary,” he said of the moment.

The director worked closely with actress Danielle Brooks to ensure the material was handled thoughtfully. “We’re dealing with a very sensitive subject. We’re dealing with racism and at the same time, there’s humor in this episode,” Gunn explained. “And so, you’re dealing with something very delicate and yet we’re not being delicate about it—but I don’t think we’re not being delicate in a non-thoughtful way. I think we’re being thoughtful about it.”

As reported in the original coverage of this story, Gunn’s approach to blending serious themes with the show’s characteristic humor continues to generate significant discussion among viewers and critics alike.
