Autonomous Driving Breakthrough

One of the most significant announcements involves autonomous driving technology, with sources indicating GM plans to bring eyes-off driving to market in 2028. The technology will debut on the Cadillac ESCALADE IQ electric SUV, marking a major step forward in hands-free driving capabilities.

The company reportedly has substantial autonomous driving experience to build upon, with 600,000 miles of mapped hands-free roads in North America and customers having driven 700 million miles with Super Cruise without any reported crashes attributed to the system. Unified Computing Platform

In 2028, GM will debut a new centralized computing platform that represents a complete reimagining of vehicle design and functionality, sources indicate. This unified system will bring together every major vehicle system—from propulsion and steering to infotainment and safety—onto a single, high-speed computing core designed to power both electric and gasoline vehicles., according to market developments

The technological benefits are substantial, with reports suggesting:

  • 1,000 times more bandwidth
  • Up to 35 times more AI performance for autonomy and advanced features

Robotics and Manufacturing Innovation

GM also shared progress on its robotics initiatives at the Autonomous Robotics Center in Warren, Michigan, and a sister lab in Mountain View, California. More than 100 roboticists, AI engineers, and hardware specialists are building advanced robotics systems trained on decades of GM production data, according to the company’s announcement.
